Red Bull: Charlie Head Standing up for the Amazon

Synopsis

Charlie Head attempts the first ever stand up paddle board of the main water source of the Amazon – the epic Rio Marañón in Peru.  In an epic 8 week paddle Charlie is going to travel from the source of the Amazon close to Queropalca high up in the Andes to Iquitos 1800 kilometers down river.  Charlie will need courage, ingenuity, strength, perseverance and a dose of luck if he is to survive the journey. In his path are lethal rapids, kilometers of white-water, steaming jungle, swarms of insects and suspicious local tribes. The trip is the ultimate adventure and the ultimate challenge and possible the last chance to see the river as it is now.  20 dams are planed which will submerge much of the region forever under meters of water.
